Ash Wednesday Worship: February 22 is Ash Wednesday. There will be one Holy Communion service that day at 6:30 p.m. Please note the change of time! Weekly Lenten services will begin on February 29 at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel. If you are in a choir, please take note of the time changes to the Wednesday night schedule as shown elsewhere in the bulletin. Ash Wednesday Taco Bar: Forget about cooking and washing dishes!!! The youth will be serving mouth watering tacos with all the trimmin’s along with dessert on Ash Wednesday, February 22, from 5:00 – 6:15 p.m. Join us before worship for a great meal and fellowship. The menu will include hard and soft tacos, burritos, bars, nachos and lemonade and coffee. Lenten folders: If you would like to have the quarter folder, there are several available on the table in front of Colleen’s office. Another option available is a Lenten Offering envelope that you may give your Lenten gift. Still another option is using one of the envelopes available in your packet of envelopes mailed recently. Lenten Sermon Series: During the Sundays of Lent, Pastor Marsha will be preaching on the topic of Prayer. She will be using resources from the author Philip Yancy and his book “Prayer, Does It Make A Difference?” Weekly themes are: • March 4: Why Pray? • March 11: Keeping Company with God • March 18: How to Pray • March 25: Prayer Problems • April 1: Does Prayer Change Anything? Midweek Lenten Worship begins on Thursday, March 1 at 7:00 p.m. We will be using the Holden Evening Prayer service. Prayer will also be the theme of the midweek worship as Pastor Marsha will preach about Prayer Warriors. The topic of each week is as follows: • March 1: King David • March 8: Solomon • March 15: Esther • March 22: Nehemiah • March 29: Daniel World Day of Prayer- March 2: The Christian women of Malaysia invite us to join them Friday, March 2 for World Day of Prayer 2012 which will be held at St. Cecelia Catholic Church, 715 E. North Street, Algona. The theme “Let Justice Prevail” was developed by the Christian women of Malaysia out of their experience as Christian women within their multi-cultural, multi-religious society. “In the midst of such diversity, tolerance and just governance is vital.” The program in the church will be followed by fellowship and a Malaysian treat in the Rochleau Center. Got Quilt Fabric? Our quilters are running short on fabric to make quilt tops. If you are a seamstress or know someone who is, the group is accepting any clean cotton or cotton polyester fabric. Please: NO knit fabrics! Donations may be left in the church office. TEACHING OPPORTUNITY!!! Christian Education is in need of a Middle School teacher to teach six Sunday's in March, April, and May. This is an awesome group and would love to share their thoughts and ideas with a GREAT teacher. Dates needed are February 26, March 11 and 25, April 22 and May 13 and 20. Thank you for prayerfully considering this opportunity! Please contact Jean Davis with any questions.
Worship Attendants Wanted: In November we began a new ‘worship attendant’ program whereby a short checklist of items is prepared by a volunteer before each worship service. This allows our services to progress smoothly and for Pastor Marsha to greet members / and guests and attend to additional tasks before worship. We are in need of several individuals who are interested in serving as worship attendants so that a rotating schedule can be planned. The worship attendant volunteer would arrive 30 minutes prior to each worship service and complete the checklist (gathering materials, testing microphones, checking supplies etc). A brief training session will be provided. If you are attentive to details and have an interest in this type of ministry, please contact Julie Murphy (515-341-0109), Jeanine Haack, or Pastor Marsha for more information or to volunteer. |
