Confirmation

Confirmation is a period of time set aside for young adults to seriously study the Christian faith. After this period of study the students re-affirm their relationship with Jesus. For many young people, this is a time when the faith they’ve heard about becomes alive in a new and fresh way.

At First Lutheran, we sponsor a three year program on Confirmation for seventh, eighth and ninth grade students. Students are confirmed in late April or early May of their ninth grade school year.

The requirements are as follows:

  • Attend Confirmation class on a regular basis. Classes are held on Wednesday nights throughout the school year, with the exception of holidays.
  • Seventh Grade: They begin their instruction in September and continue through April each Wednesday evening at 6:00 p.m. with Colleen Teeuwe as their teacher.
  • Eighth Grade: They begin their instruction  in September and continue through April each Wednesday evening at 6:00 p.m. with Pastor Marsha as their teacher.
  • Ninth Grade: They begin their instruction  in September and continue through April each Wednesday evening at 6:00 p.m. with Pastor Marsha Smith as their teacher.
  • Attend weekly worship service and participate in Sunday School.
  • Submit a total of 12 worship notes yearly.
  • Attend Confirmation Camp at Lutheran Lakeside or Ingham Okoboji Lutheran Bible Camp, normally the summer following Seventh Grade.
