Full-Time Director of Youth and Family Ministry

FLC YOUTH AND FAMILY MINISTRY MISSION STATEMENT

First Lutheran Church’s Director of Youth and Family Ministry must:

      Have a growing relationship with Jesus Christ

      Possess the ability to deal with sensitive issues that may arise while working with youth and their families.

The Director of Youth and Family Ministry is responsible for encouraging a personal relationship with Jesus Christ in First Lutheran’s youth and families through:

FAITH FORMATION AND EDUCATION

    The Director of Youth and Family Ministry is responsible for enhancing Faith Formation and Education through the following programs:

      K.I.C.K. – Kids in Christ’s Kingdom (grades K-5)

    Early Out Fun Days
    After School Program
    Christmas Program & Vacation Bible School Assistance as needed.

      Campaigners (Middle School Youth) & B.A.S.I.C. (High School Youth)

          Regular Youth Group Activities
          High School Sunday School
          Small Group Bible Studies
          Service projects
          Fellowship Activities
          Recharge Weekends, Summer Camp, Retreats
          Mission trips

      Family Fun Nights/Activities – 5th Wednesdays

          Opportunities for learning, service, and fun available to every member of the congregation.

NETWORK/MENTORING

    The Director of Youth and Family Ministry is responsible for providing Networking/Mentoring opportunities for youth and families at First Lutheran Church. This includes:

          Assessing talents/interest and assisting youth with service opportunities within the congregation.
          Providing Young Adults with opportunities to interact and connect with peers.
          Providing parents with information on topics related to youth and parenting.
          Coordinating Secret Angels/Junior Secret Angels providing prayer partners for youth.
          Equipping and training adult volunteers for the Youth Ministry Program.

OUTREACH

    The Director of Youth and Family Ministry is responsible for expanding on Outreach. This includes:

        Attending School & Community Activities
        Ecumenical activities with other local church programs

          Special Events: Mission Trips, National Youth Gathering, Lock-Ins, Recharge & weekend Retreats, Service Projects, Summer Camps, Concerts

ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES

    The Director of Youth and Family Ministry is responsible for administrative duties related to the position including but not limited to:

    Attendance at Staff, Church Council, and Youth Committee meetings.
    Preparing Bulletin Announcements, Newsletter Articles, Website Information, Bulletin Boards, and Event Announcements, as well as Monthly Youth/Council and Annual Reports.
    Coordinating Fundraisers for youth activities.
    Promotion of programs at Ingham & Okoboji Lutheran Bible Camp and Lutheran Lakeside Bible Camp for both youth and adults.
    Managing Youth Checking & Savings Accounts and Youth budget Items.

BACKGROUND REQUIREMENTS

          College Degree or Comparable Ministry Experience
          Membership at First Lutheran Church Required of Successful Candidate
          Background Check; Work References; and Pre-Employment Drug Screen are required.

IN RETURN:

    We, the Congregation of First Lutheran Church offers the Director of Youth and Family Ministry:

          A full-time salary/wage compensation package per the Employee Policy Manual.
          A pledge to be supportive of this position by providing support for the assigned responsibilities.
          The opportunity for on-going professional development by providing a continuing education budget allocation.
          Financial support for youth and family ministry activities through the Youth Budget.
          Our Church’s facilities to provide an office and space for youth and family programs. We also offer the availability of camping ministry options through Ingham & Okoboji Lutheran Bible Camps and Lutheran Lakeside Bible Camp.
          A youth committee to provide on-going support and assistance for the Youth & Family Ministry Program. One to two committee members serve as liaisons to the Congregation Council.

This job description is a guideline for the scope of the duties expected. The Director of Youth & Family Ministry is immediately accountable to the Pastor and Congregation Council. Performance Reviews will be conducted after 90-days and semi-annually thereafter. It is expected this mission will require several years of prayerful duty to fully bear fruit; hence, First Lutheran is looking for an individual willing to commit to this long-term mission. The job description can be modified by mutual discussion and agreement between the Director of Youth and Family Ministry and the Congregation Council. Individual creativity is encouraged as long as lines of communication are strong.
