Adopt-a-Highway Clean-up
Each Spring and Fall, several members of First Lutheran walk and clean-up a
two-mile stretch of Highway 18.

Global Health
Ministries
A service project First Lutheran began in 2003 is the collection of surplus
& used, but serviceable, medical supplies from our local hospital, clinic
and physicians. These supplies are then transported to Global Health
Ministries in Minneapolis.

Adopt several
needy families at Christmas Each November, the Social Ministry
Committee of First Lutheran Church adopts several families from the Kossuth
County Relief Office. Lists of wants and needs are distributed and members
help fulfill the wishes of families in need.

Crop Walk

The first Sunday of October is
designated as CROP Walk day. Members of First Lutheran, as well as
several other area churches, participate in this yearly event to help fight
hunger in our community and the world. |

Support
Missionary Couple - Jean Wahlstrom & Pastor Marvin Kananen - at Maasai Girls
Lutheran Secondary School in Monduli, Tanzania
First Lutheran financially supports Jean
Wahlstrom & Pastor Marvin Kananen since September 2003. The couple was
married in April of 1990 and began their missionary service in June 1998.
Jean is the Mentor of Christian
Education at the Maasai Girls Lutheran Secondary School in Monduli.
She teaches Bible studies, leads worship services, develops women’s
leadership for Christian ministry among the students and staff, and nurtures
their spiritual life.
Pastor Marvin
works with English teachers in the Arusha diocese. He records the
history and individual stories of the students, assists in the library
establishment, assists leadership of Arusha AA program, and writes Bible
studies.

Support the
Prison Ministry of Church of the Damascus Road
The Church of the
Damascus Road is a prison ministry of which members are the inmates of the
North Central Correction Facility located in Rockwell City, Iowa and the
Fort Dodge Correction Facility in Fort Dodge, Iowa. First Lutheran
supports the ministry by pledging a yearly donation to the congregation.
Many of our members have visited this unique congregation.

Support the
Family Crisis Center of North Iowa
First Lutheran provides financial
support of the Family Crisis Center that provides temporary shelter for
battered and abused persons. A recent donation was baby quilts.

Quilts for
World Relief
 During the year,
women of First Lutheran meet on the first Thursday of each month to sew
quilts for Lutheran World Relief. On the average, 30 quilts are
produced each year. In 2003, a group of 13 members that traveled to
Tanzania each took a quilt with them and presented to individuals during
their mission trip.

Quarters for
World Hunger
All quarters that are in the weekly offering are
designated for World Hunger. Since its inception in August of 2001
over 7,000 quarters have been received! Many members find this a quick
and easy way to help fight World Hunger.

Support of an
Indian Foster Child The First
Lutheran Sunday School financially sponsors a child from India each year
through the ELCA Division for Global Mission. Offerings taken from the
second Sunday of each month help provide the yearly financial support we
give.

Support of the
Hope Education Project in Tanzania
The First Lutheran Sunday School financially
supports this ongoing project in Tanzania. Offerings taken from the
first Sunday of each month provide the yearly financial support of a student
through secondary school. Our pledge covers the tuition, room, and
board for this student.
